How to use point of view

October 15, 2024 by Matt Rees

How to write a crime novel, episode 15

How do you use point of view in your crime novel? And, importantly, how do you avoid misusing point of view and looking like a bad writer? Here’s how to use point of view.

Here’s how to use point of view

  • Make sure you have only one point of view, or POV, in a chapter
  • If you must, you can have different POVs in one chapter and then in the next
  • But don’t switch POV within a chapter, even though some famous writers sometimes do it. You’ll look incompetent.
