How to write Plot Point 2

October 7, 2024 by Matt Rees

How to write a crime novel, episode 7

How do you propel your hero into the final section of your crime novel? You need a good Plot Point 2. Plot Point 2 is the term writers use for the big moment that ties up all the investigation of Act II and moves the plot into the home stretch of Act III. This post explains how you do it.

Here’s what you need to do, briefly:

  • A moment of discovery, but not the final confrontation with the main bad guy
  • Your hero can confront a minor bad guy, only to discover who the main bad guy is
  • Tie up the subplot. Use it to cast new light on the main plot
